Ludovic Gérard et Nicolas Brossay (Solenn for Pure Ocean) viennent de remporter la première édition de la Cap-Martinique en double. Les Marseillais sont arrivés en deuxième position en temps réel, derrière l’équipage Delemazure et Weil (Project Resue Ocean). Ils ont bouclé le parcours en 20 jours, 1 heures et 23 minutes. En temps compensé, ils terminent ainsi avec près de 4 heures d’avance sur Tristan de Witte et Marcel Dutreux (Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant). La bagarre est toujours ouverte pour la troisième place.

Quelle analyse faites-vous de votre course ?
« Oui nous sommes satisfaits. Deuxième en temps réel, 1^er en temps compensé à priori. C’est une course de portant, donc beaucoup de spi. Notre bateau était moins optimisé pour nous dans ces conditions. Il a fallu compenser ce déficit de vitesse par des bons choix tactiques. On a fait de belles trajectoires je pense, tout du long de la course, avec des choix stratégiques importants à certains moments. Il y a eu vraiment des passages clés où l’on s'est dit "maintenant, il faut qu'on décide, il faut qu'on y aille !" Les choix faits étaient des bons choix. Il y avait une grosse concurrence. A chaque fois qu'on reprenait 1 mille à un concurrent, il le voyait, donc il remettait du charbon et nous reprenait 2 milles derrière ! Finalement, on n'a pas arrêté de se bagarrer avec tous :  les Figaros 2, les JPK 10.10 qui vont très vite aussi avec des petits Ratings. Donc oui, très belle course. On est fiers d'avoir fait une transat en tout cas et puis très heureux d'être arrivés en Martinique. On a vécu une aventure exceptionnelle. 20 jours de mer, c'est énorme. Avec Ludo, nous nous sommes régalés. Le résultat est là à priori donc on devrait être assez satisfaits. »
 
En 3 mots comment définiriez- vous cette transat Cap-Martinique ?
« Alors, on va dire engagée. Le kiff tout le temps, on a vraiment pris énormément de plaisir pendant 3 semaines. Et fatigante parce que pendant 3 semaines on n’a pas arrêté de mettre du charbon. »
 
Le moment qui vous a le plus marqué ?
« Madère est très sympa. Avec l'accélération du vent dans cette zone, on a fait quelques petites sorties de piste qui m'ont permis de prendre un bain quand le bateau s'est couché. On a piqué des fous rires. On a vraiment bien rigolé. Et sinon, il y a tous les souvenirs en mer.  Hier soir avec les dauphins qui venaient au coucher du soleil jouer avec l’étrave, ça c'est juste magnifique ! Cela montre à quel point c'est beau l’océan et qu’il faut absolument le préserver. C'est le sens de notre engagement avec la fondation Pure Ocean. »

Ludovic Gérard and Nicolas Brossay secure victory in the double-handed category

Ludovic Gérard and Nicolas Brossay (Solenn for Pure Ocean) have just won the first edition of the Cap-Martinique’s double-handed category. The team from Marseille finished in second place in elapsed time, behind the Delemazure and Weil duo (Project Rescue Ocean). They completed the course in 20 days, 1 hour and 23 minutes. In corrected time, they finished nearly 4 hours ahead of Tristan de Witte and Marcel Dutreux (Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant). The battle for third place is yet to be decided.

What is your assessment of your race?
“We’re delighted. Second in elapsed time, first in corrected time in principle. It’s a downwind race so there was a lot of spinnaker sailing. Our boat was less optimised for these conditions, so we had to make up for our speed deficit with some sound tactical choices. I think we sailed some great trajectories throughout the race, with some important strategic options at certain points along the way. There really were some key passages where we said to ourselves “okay, we need to make a decision, we have to really go for it!” The choices we made were the right ones. The competition was fierce. Each time we made up a mile on a rival, they saw it and put pedal to the metal and then we ended up 2 miles behind! Ultimately, we were battling continuously with everyone: the Figaro 2s, the JPK 10.10s which also go very fast with low ratings… So yes, a really fantastic race. We’re proud to have completed a transatlantic passage in any case and we’re also thrilled to have made landfall in Martinique. We’ve had an amazing adventure. 20 days at sea is quite something. Ludo and I had a ball. In principle we’ve got the result we were after too so we should be satisfied with our lot!”
 
How would you describe this Cap-Martinique transatlantic race in 3 words?
“Well, we’d say ‘full-on’, ‘thrilling’ throughout as it was incredibly enjoyable for 3 weeks and ‘tiring’, because we were on it for 3 weeks solid.”
 
The most striking moment for you?
“Madeira is very nice. With the acceleration in the wind in that area, we had a few broaches, which was an opportunity for me to have a bath! We really got the giggles. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. On top of that there are all the memories from being at sea. Yesterday evening, with dolphins playing around the bow at sunset, it was just fabulous! It just goes to show how beautiful the ocean is and how absolutely vital it is to preserve it. That’s what our commitment to the Fondation Pure Ocean is all about.”
